Tyler Perry’s movie “Single Moms Club” is a story about five single women who find that they are just going through the motions of life trying to survive.
May (Nia Long) is a single mother who struggles to help her son understand that his father loves him, even though his father never visits. Jan (Wendi McLendon-Covey) is a workaholic. She puts work before her daughter and preoccupies her daughter with after school activities to keep her busy. Hillary (Amy Smart) is going through a nasty divorce. Her husband, out of spite, takes away the luxuries that she has grown accustomed to. Hillary has a daughter that feels like a stranger to her; the daughter feels more comfortable talking with the nanny. Esperanza (Zulay Henao) is a divorced single mother who still has to deal with her controlling ex-husband. Esperanza struggles with trying to co-parent with a person who undermines her authority in front of their child. Last, but not least, is Lytia. Lytia (Cocoa Brown) pushes her son because she doesn’t want him to end up like his older brothers, who are incarcerated. She struggles with trying to provide for her children while trying to patch things up with her sister.

Single mothers everywhere can relate to the levels of emotion that came from this movie. I found myself almost tearing up in certain scenes because of the struggles portrayed. This movie resonated with me because it showed realistic plights that women often find themselves in, especially single mothers.
