Dear Phoenix,
First off let me say YOU ARE THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER COME INTO MY LIFE!! I’ve wanted you for as long as I can remember.
I waited so long to have you because Mommy wanted to be able to provide for you and give you the very best life imaginable. You have truly become the greatest motivation behind all I do. When I found out that you were in my belly, so many emotions came over me, but none of them were fear. I knew you were coming right on time. Mommy promises to always do what she has to do to take care of you and make you feel safe and secure.
Now I want you to know that some of the things I may do may not make sense to you at times, like leaving to go on the road to tell jokes or go away for a awhile to make movies or film a TV show, but know i do it all for you so that I can take care of you and NEVER do I not think about my gorgeous boy while I’m away. In the coming months, Mommy is gonna have to make some hard decisions that will possibly alter your life forever, but i want you to know that these decisions are not your fault in any way but to ensure that the right role models are in your life and that you will grow up seeing the kind of man I want you to be.Having you opened my eyes so much and made me realize that all the choices I make not only affect me anymore, but affect you as well, maybe even more. So with that said, know that no decision I make is done without much thought and consideration of your well being. Mommy will ALWAYS put you first!!!
I hope and pray that as your grow, you will see how much I love you and that all I do is for you. I want to be the kind of woman you admire, respect and look up to. I will always keep it 100 (Mommy will definitely explain that term to you:) with you and you can talk to me about anything. Mommy promises to always listen to you and hear what you have to say… your opinion will be heard (even if I say no…I heard you:).
Know that Mommy won’t always give in to you but when I don’t it won’t be because I don’t love you, but because I do. There will be times we just don’t see eye to eye but Mommy will always allow you to state your case. I want you to know you can talk to Mommy about anything! (Even when that dreaded Birds & Bees talk comes up). I will always be honest and truthful about my feelings to you and I only ask that of you in return. Let there be no secrets between us o.k.?
There are so many things I want to teach you and I just ask that you be open to learn. I want you to NEVER doubt your worth or question it. You are and always will be a SPLENDID little boy and then a SPLENDID young man and then a SPLENDID Black man! I want you to wake up everyday and say I LOVE ME and there is NOTHING I can’t BE or ACCOMPLISH! (& trust Mommy will make sure you say it too).
Phoenix Zion, you are Mommy’s lil Prince, but also God’s Prince and I want you to always know that God and I love you very, very much! Mommy is so happy and feels so blessed that you came into her life and I promise to let you know that in some way everyday. Thank you for being all I dreamed about!
